September was a great month! At the very beginning of September, Jeff and I were able to get away for a night to Banff. It was nice to get away just the two of us after having the kids with us all summer. We had a gift card from Brent and Bailey that we got for Christmas for a food tour at the Banff Springs, so we used that and then stayed a night at the hotel. We went to 4 different restaurants/venues in Banff Springs and got a dish at each one, paired with a mocktail. It started with delicious sandwiches, then tartar, a beet salad, oysters with fries and bread, and chocolate cake. They were all super delicious and the group we went with was pretty fun too. The tour guide was great, and we all had a lot of fun! She showed us all around the hotel too.
Afterwards, we went swimming at the outdoor and indoor pools, and went in the hot tub. In the morning we got some breakfast, I got a massage, and then we rented some bikes and biked together to the vermillion lakes. It was great!
On Labor Day it was Brent and Bailey's twins' first birthday, so we met up with Bailey at the zoo. Afterwards she threw a party for them at her parents' acreage and the kids loved celebrating them! So much so that Bentley did not want to leave when it was time for her to go to her first dance classes (it was quite the event and I'll just say we never made it to dance).
The Food Drive is always a fun September activity, and we love to volunteer our time delivering and picking up bags! The weather was great and we got lots of food!
The kids got their school photos back and they are very cute!
Bentley and Deacon both joined the school Cross-Country teams, and it was a lot of fun to go watch their races! They had practices during the day, while they were at school, and then 2 different races. We hosted one at Lloyd Park, and the other one we had to drive to High River for. For the first race they handed out ribbons for the top ten and then participation ribbons after that. Deacon ended up getting 8th! I was super proud of him. Bentley was a little jealous because she got a participation ribbon, but she was probably around 15th place and had a huge group to run against, so I had to keep reminding her of that! For the second race, they only gave out ribbons for the top 3. Both of them ended up with participation ribbons, but they still did awesome, and I was really proud of them! I definitely learned how competitive my kids are though!!
Their school also had a color run one day, which I went to watch and take pictures. Boston and I got a little colored ourselves, but it was a great time. The kids had fun! I also got a chance to volunteer in Deacon's class one day for a color learning activity and it was a good time, but also tiring because I had to teach the same lesson to 4 different groups. Deacon was thrilled I came to his class though and it was so worth it!
Reed joined Deacon in his Karate class, which is super fun. He is having the best time! He's very determined to get his different colored belts. On Oct.22, he tested for his yellow belt and got it! He did amazing, and it was the most fun thing to watch. Although, they didn't anticipate so many people, so it took a long time and the place was packed. Deacon didn't mind though, he was just thrilled to go up a level, and when they put him on the spot to show him his kick, he did amazing! He has a nice loud voice too. I was very proud of him.
We've had the nicest weather in September and early October. Leo and Boston have been playing outside a lot. We go on walks to the park almost daily, Boston keeps our garden watered (I was shocked when he knew where the water was and what to do with it), and we play on our trampoline and sandbox a lot. We even went to get ice cream! Leo always asks for yellow ice cream because that's his favorite color, no matter the flavor. We also made some trips to the library and found some new books to read.
We did Thanksgiving with the Ady's this year and had a delicious turkey dinner. Then I helped the kids make turkey bags so they could use them to put candy in from the pinata! We all had a great time, and it was great to catch up. Grandma Ady was there as well.
The Manville's moved back to Calgary and we got together one night to make pizzas! They brought the dough, I supplied the toppings, and we made the most delicious pizzas. The balsamic glaze definitely makes the pizza. Our kids had a great time playing together and we had a lot of fun catching up!
