Bentley had been waiting for this for a long time. Most of the summer she was asking me when school would start and why it was taking so long. I just love her enthusiasm for life! She was excited to be going to Red Deer Lake School because that's where Emri and Brek, and Ryley, Ethan and Skyler went. Also her friend Abigail goes there. She had already been to orientation where she met her teacher, Mrs. Ozimko, who gave her a big treat bag with bubbles, markers, and other fun things. The day came and she was excited to bring her new backpack with her lunch box and new shoes.
Deacon didn't quite know what to think. He got into Renfrew, because he's just a little slower with his speech. They have school every afternoon for a bit less than 3 hours. He also gets to take a bus there and back. I bought him a fun Spiderman backpack, which he loved, and some new shoes. If you asked him if he was excited though, he would always say no. I was quite nervous for him because it's all so new to him and he's only 3!
After we took some photos, Deacon's bus pulled up and he screamed with excitement! He was thrilled that he got to ride it to school!! I helped him on the bus and luckily he was happy the whole time as I waved goodbye. I was scared for him but so happy that he was excited. Later, I learned that the seats aren't very comfortable and he complains almost every day about his bum hurting! He isn't a big fan of the bus, but some days he doesn't even complain. It's sure a lot for him!
Bentley had a short day for the first time going. She came home ecstatic and excited to tell me everything she did! She colored a hand perfectly, and went on and on about everything else. She has been enjoying school this first month and I even got to go in and volunteer one day, helping them with a craft and reading them a book. It was great to see how Bentley's class runs so that I can understand more about what she is always telling me!
Bentley had a welcome back BBQ at her school, which we made sure to go to. And Deacon had a function at Renfrew where there was face painting and lots of activities. They were both so fun, and it was so good to go and support our kids so they know we are proud of them!
A couple weeks into school the kids also started swimming lessons. All 3 kids have a lesson at the same time! So while I'm in the water with Leo, Bentley and Deacon are doing their lessons and sometimes I can peek over and see them. Bentley also started a Musical Theater class which she is loving. I can't wait to watch the performance! Deacon will start a sports ball class in November.
So far things are going pretty well, although there is the odd day where either Bentley or Deacon are sad about going to school and may even shed a few tears. But I am so proud of them and hopeful that they will enjoy school, since it will be a big part of their lives!
