Fall/Halloween

We started Fall with an unusually early snowfall on Oct.2, but within a week it was all gone and we still got to enjoy some nice Fall weather. The kids had fun building snowmen and using their little shovels, especially since it wasn't too cold yet! We've really been trying to soak in as much warm weather as we can and take advantage of being outside, going to parks, collecting leaves, and finding ladybugs. Also, Deacon had quite a fun time jumping and swimming in big puddles! You gotta let them be little and have fun sometimes right? I've also really been enjoying my little Leo these days. He is so so cute, and sleeps so good nowadays, which make it so much easier to enjoy him!

Bentley and I had our annual girls night where we invite a bunch of friends to paint nails, eat chocolate fondue, and do each others makeup! We had so much fun last year, so I decided to do it again, and it was once again so much fun. We just crack up watching the girls put makeup on us the way they think it's supposed to be. It's such a special night where us moms can spend one on one time with our daughters, and also get a girls night and have adults to talk to! And the chocolate fondue just makes it all the better...still my favorite treat in the world!

General Conference was very exciting this year! The announcement was made that instead of 3 hours of church, in January it will only be 2 hours. Our learning is supposed to be more home based and supported by going to church each Sunday. I was a little sad to hear that at first (I actually really like church), but I was also excited to really dive into the new curriculum and study it lots at home. It puts more pressure on us as parents, but if we can get into a good routine of learning and studying at home, I think it is the best place to learn! Anyways, I really enjoyed conference and felt like it was so inspired. I made several activities for the kids to do and Bentley polished each one off perfectly. I am constantly impressed by her skills lately! Deacon actually lasted pretty long and then decided to do his own thing, which is just what I expected.

One Saturday we all went to the Corn Maze as a family and had so much fun! It's one of my favorite things to do, especially in the Fall when they have their pumpkin festival. The kids each got a free little pumpkin to decorate, and they had free pony rides which turned out to be such a hit for them. They looked so adorable riding the little ponies! We also rode on the train pulled by a tractor, jumped on the jumping pillow, watched the pigs race (which I LOVE as well), picked out a pumpkin, and indulged in some mini donuts. It was just one of those perfect days where the sun was shining, it was warm, and the kids were happy. We all had a blast!

We did quite a few Halloween Festivities this year, although not as many as I would've liked because Jeff was away on a business trip the weekend before Halloween. So, I did what I could on my own with the kids, but it gets a little harder to do things when you're outnumbered 3 to 1! Anyways, we had a Halloween themed play school done by Emily Whiteley where the kids dressed up, did some crafts, read a story, did the monster mash, and had treats. I should also mention that my friend Jaycie dressed up as elastigirl and Deacon was obsessed! He really thought the real elastigirl was in our house and he could not get over it. He probably followed her around the whole time, but it was so adorable! We also had a party to go to where Deacon and I made these monster cookies together. He was pretty excited about them! We also visited the Rec centre to vote, which then turned into an activity of finding all the blow up Halloween things. There were SO many! We also visited the Farmer's Market where they had a magician and some other stuff but the kids mostly played in the play centre. When Jeff came home he brought them home some massive lollipops and the kids were thrilled!

Let's not forget our tradition of carving pumpkins with the Bennett's every year! Lena had just had her baby Gus a week before, but was still up to coming. So we had a good time, and I really enjoyed watching Deacon get messy and enjoy every bit of playing in those pumpkin guts. Leo was a little fussy so it took a while to finish, but we got it done and lit them up for the kids to see. Always the favorite part of the night!

On Halloween, Bentley got to wear her costume to school. We had ordered a unicorn costume a long ways back in September, but it never showed! So the night before Halloween we went out and I let her pick whatever she wanted. She had seen The Incredibles 2 not long before and was pretty obsessed with it so she picked to be Violet. And she sure looked the part! Deacon had picked a dinosaur a long ways back and was still happy with his choice. Leo was going to be a panda but I lost that costume somehow and so a deer was about all I could find, and he looked adorable!
When the night came, we started at my parents house and also ate soup there. Then we came back to Legacy and trick or treated at our neighbors house who had special buckets of candy for them, and kept going a long ways. We went all the way over to where the Lockings live because they had a pretty great Halloween setup! Bentley found a friend to trick or treat with (what else is new?). He was dressed as Spiderman, so they looked so adorable running around together. Deacon was a little slower and probably went to half as many houses as Bentley. Leo was fairly happy in the stroller or in our arms. Once we got tired, we went over to Grandma Ady's house to finish off the night. Unfortunately Scott and Kellie had already left, but we talked with the grandparents for a bit and then went home to sort the piles of candy. The kids were EXHAUSTED and did not take long to go to bed! I was pretty glad Halloween was over, as I do find it a little exhausting. The next day the candy binge went down. I taxed their candy and then pretty much took away Deacon's but still let them have quite a bit that day. At one point Deacon was sucking on 3 suckers, and Bentley had 2 at once. A little ridiculous! Anyways, then the detox happened for the rest of the week! And here we are finding it hard to believe it is already November!!
