Deacon is almost 6 weeks old, and it's been a whirlwind! He is such a good baby though, I must say. He slept really good right at the start, and then kind of had some rough nights, but now usually sleeps well at night. He will wake up every 3 or 4 hours to eat (which is really just twice in the night), and then he usually goes right back to sleep. He is also a great eater, although will usually nurse too much and spit up a lot! He loves baths and getting snuggled by his grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins. His sister can be a pest sometimes, but sure loves him and always wants to give him his soother and help out. He is such a handsome little thing, but definitely a lot of work! Here are the newborn photos we had taken by Christina Reed when he was about a week old...they are too cute!!
Well we've had some stressful things happen lately, but the biggest thing is Jeff busting his knee. I had taken Deacon to his circumcision that day (which was super dramatic for me, especially having to take Bentley along too), and then that night Jeff called me from basketball telling me the bad news about his knee. Scott took him to urgent care and he got an x-ray taken and some pain killers. He came home that night with a brace on his leg and crutches. He wasn't supposed to walk on that leg because the bone may have been broken, but needed another x-ray to show more. A couple weeks later he got a CT scan and the surgeon told him a piece chipped off, but apparently he didn't need surgery on the bone. The MCL is definitely torn, and probably a partial ACL tear, and there's even a chance that there is an LCL tear. So we are now waiting for him to get an MRI to show for certain. It's taken so long already and we still don't have a diagnosis! Crazy Canadian health care!! Anyways, there is a small chance he won't need surgery, but he probably will. It might be a 9-month waiting list, or immediate surgery, depending on what the MRI shows. So this news came hard for me because I was already struggling with the change of having 2 kids and a whole lot less sleep. Jeff can't help me with the kids a whole lot, and it's a time that I really need him!
Then one day Bentley decided to eat a bunch of Tylenol so I had to drag her and Deacon to the Children's Hospital to make sure she didn't eat over the limit. She threw up on the way there and, poor girl, had to sit there covered in it while I got us to the hospital. After a couple hours they took her blood and then they could tell me if she needed meds through an IV. My little girl did so good giving blood, and they even got an IV ready to go on her hand in case she needed it. She fell asleep on me afterwards and I can't remember the last time she did that! It was a stressful day, but luckily the results came back below the limit that was cause for concern. We were glad that she did throw up and got lots of it out of her system.
Well I'm grateful for such wonderful people in my life who have taken Bentley for a while to give me a break, brought us dinner or muffins, gifts, or even just visited. I honestly am so lucky to have wonderful friends and family, and what a great ward we have as well! I can't count the number of people who have offered their help to me in the last month and a half. Things are still hard for me and Bentley has been getting worse in the eating and tantrums department, but I think slowly things will normalize, and I'm also really looking forward to my parents coming home in a couple of weeks!! I'm pretty exhausted lately, but I'm also super grateful to have two healthy and beautiful kids who I love so so much! We are really blessed.
